Cornish fairings

This recipe is for 24 of these traditional spice biscuits.
You will need:
200g of plain flour, two teaspoonfuls of ground ginger, half a teaspoonful of mixed spice, 175g of caster sugar, a pinch of saffron, rubbed to a powder, a pinch of salt, 175g of unsalted butter (softened).
Sift the dry ingredients together, and cream the sugar and butter. Stir the two together, mixing thoroughly. Form the mixture into 24 balls. Place them on greased or lined baking-trays, and press them down with the base of a glass. Bake them for around 10 minutes in a preheated oven at gas mark 4/180 C or until they are golden-brown. Transfer them to a wire rack to cool.
