The major port-shippers
Their names are famous the world over: Cockburn Smithes (1815), Croft (1678), A. A. Ferreira (1751), Quinta da Noval (1813), Sandeman (1790), Taylor Fladgate Fonseca (1692), and Symington Port Shippers, which owns Dow (1798), Grahamn (1820) – now Graham’s, Gould Campbell (1797), Quarles Harris (1680), Smith Woodhouse (1784) and Warre (1670). The first English port house in Porto was Warre, which was set up in 1670 and remains one of the top ten houses today, but the oldest house is that of Koepke, which was founded in 1638.
