The phenomenal success of Taste magazine encouraged us to take the next step forward, and put our entire archive of recipes, features and articles on line for instant access. There are over a thousand recipes so far, and many more to come. This is a great place to get instant ideas on what to cook. Look in your refrigerator to see what's available, then key in 'chicken', for example, and you'll find yourself with a wealth of chicken recipes to choose from. We hope this will become the web portal that brings lovers of food and drink together. Check in for regular updates, news and views, and help make our food blog a lively place to be, sharing information and asking for advice.

And remember, the next issue of Taste magazine is out on 10 August with The Malta Independent on Sunday. Reserve your copy at your newsagent.

    • Perfect timing! I was wondering where I could find a good recipe for chocolate cake for my daughter's birthday, and you've just solved my problem. Thanks, and good luck with this lovely website.

    • "Prosit" to all involved in this website!

The "bourbon biscuits" by Matty Cremona are simply delicious, and taste just as good without the creamy filling. (They also freeze very well that way, too.)

They are a firm favorite with my kids, who love mucking in to make them. In fact always try to make some extra biscuits, to have a frozen batch ready when needed.

    • Could your chefs or advisors, create some recipes for Diabetic, & high or low blood pressure sufferers. The hospitals do not give you any thing clear, justa few things you cant eat but nothing specific.they say dont eat sugar, but if you get a recipe book for Diabetics,They use sugar in a lot of recipes. There are a lot of people who suffer from these ilnesses in Malta, & I am sure they would be appreciated

    • Daphne Caruana Galizia / Sunday, 10 August 2008
    • Taste is there to encourage people to cook good food from scratch. All the recipes we feature are healthy because they use good, natural ingredients. But we've taken on board the suggestions here for low-fat and sugar-free recipes, and meals that are suitable for diabetics. We'll put on our thinking-caps and plan something.

    • Well done, very good website! I'm glad my favourite magazine is now accessible online! Thank you

    • Anita / Tuesday, 12 August 2008
    • A big prosit for this website. It will save me alot of time looking for recipes as I normally flip through all Taste magazines! It would also be very helpful if you add comments to recipes such as whether they can be frozen, if they can be prepared before etc. This is especially useful when entertaining. Thanks and well done

    • Well done for the website. Taste recipes are always great for when I need something innovative. On a different note I suggest that you improve the manner in which the recipes print out since the one I tried came out in one very long column that wasted about 5 pages.

    • Daphne Caruana Galizia / Thursday, 14 August 2008
    • Thanks, Margaret. We'll work on the print facility over the next few days.

    • Gianfranco / Thursday, 14 August 2008
    • Congratulations! At last a great magazine for those who are really passionate about food

    • Marcelle Cannataci / Friday, 15 August 2008
    • Prosit for the effort and dedication put in by the Taste team in producing this web site. It's a joy browsing through it and a real help for the cook. Keep up the good work! I have collected every issue of Taste and have my favourite recipes which I always go back to. I looked for Imbuljuta on the site and only got Claire Borg's version. My favourite is Matty Cremona's (Issue 3 pg.76). I can't find it anywhere on the website. It's not on Matty Cremona's page either. Is it somewhere else? If it's not on the website, is there any way these little recipes, usually found on Taste Info, can be included? It would be a pity to lose them.

    • Audrey / Friday, 15 August 2008
    • Well done for the good work! The site is very useful - with easy to find recipes. I would suggest also sorting recipes as appetizers, snacks, main courses and desserts. When I'm lost in deciding what to cook, having a list of, say, appetizers, would help me deciding! Well done again.

    • Anthony Gauci / Friday, 15 August 2008
    • Keep up the hard work.

But I'd like to make a suggestion with regard to most of the photos you publish in your editions of the magazine. In every edition these are turning out to be more of a family album which are of no public or culinary interest.

    • Daphne Caruana Galizia / Friday, 15 August 2008
    • Ms Cannataci - this might have been the result of a double entry problem caused by the recipes having exactly the same name. We'll upload Matty's imbuljuta recipe over the coming days and mark it with her name. Thanks for letting us know.

    • Daphne Caruana Galizia / Friday, 15 August 2008
    • Audrey, we had considered that, but then decided it wasn't practical because one person's first course is another person's main course.

When deciding what to cook, you can search by available ingredients. For example, enter 'chicken' into the search-box and you'll get all our chicken recipes.

    • Daphne Caruana Galizia / Tuesday, 19 August 2008
    • Marcell Cannataci - here's the recipe you were after.

      IMBULJUTA (Matty Cremona's version)

      You will need:

      500g of dried chestnuts
the rind of one orange and two tangerines
an extra piece of lemon rind
      100g of black chocolate
four tablespoonfuls of cocoa powder four heaped tablespoonfuls of brown sugar
one heaped tablespoonful of white sugar
      eight cloves (msiemer tal-qronfol)
a teaspoonful of grated nutmeg and another of ground mixed spice

Wash the dried chestnuts and sort them out, removing any bad ones. Then soak them overnight in water. Next morning, rinse them well and remove any brown bits of loose skin. Rinse the nuts, cover them well with water and bring them to the boil. Let them simmer until they are just tender. Add the rest of the ingredients, bring the pot back to the boil and let it simmer until the chestnuts are meltingly soft and have absorbed all the delicious flavours. Serve the mbuljuta cold, at room temperature or hot with a tot of brandy stirred into it.

    • Great idea to create this site!! well done to all involved!
Can anyone give me a good recipie for 'balbuljata tad-tadam' please :) tried searching the site but seems it's not there!

    • Jennifer, we don't have the recipe you suggest. If anyone has it, please post it here. Thanks.

    • J MIFSUD / Thursday, 21 August 2008
    • i HAVE SEND A REQUEST FOR A DIABETIC ICECREAM RECEIPE BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING. IS IT POSSIBLE TO RECEIVE A REPLY PLEASE

THANKS AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

    • Daphne Caruana Galizia / Friday, 22 August 2008
    • J. Mifsud - Our archive doesn't contain a recipe for diabetic ice-cream, as Taste does not focus on recipes for people with special dietary requirements. This web portal doesn't provide a service for providing recipes that are not stroed in the archive, though of course, if readers wish to exchange recipes here, that is a service we provide. Ice-cream must always be sweetened in some way, and most of the recipes we researched on the internet use sugar substitutes like Sweet 'n' Low instead of sugar. We have trouble recommending the use of this sugar substitute as recent studies have indicated that it might actually be far more dangerous to health that the sugar it substitutes, in some people. Also, it all depends on what sort of diabetes we are talking about here. The fruit used in many ice-creams is packed with sugar, so substituting the refined sugar component is not enough. You also have to avoid including fruit with the more problematic type of diabetes. We do not have a nutritionist on our team as we do not deal with specialised diets, so we would feel irresponsible recommending something that might turn out to be not quite right. I would suggest consulting a nutritionist who specialises in helping diabetics. Your doctor will be able to recommend one.

    • JOANNA MIFSUD / Friday, 22 August 2008
    • Thank you very much for your reply regarding Diabetic ice cream. yes its true about the sugar contents as the one i bought ideal for diabetic sugar contained more sugar than a normal one. Never mind, will subsitute ice cream to apples.

      THANKS

    • clive bonavia / Monday, 25 August 2008
    • May I suggest something: Why not organise the recipes by categories, eg: fish meat, sweets etc. so that one can easily search for a recipe throughout the whole set of issues?

    • Dorianne / Monday, 25 August 2008
    • Well done to everyone for setting up this website! May I suggest to put the serving against every recipe. This would be of great help. Thanks!

    • Daphne Caruana Galizia / Wednesday, 27 August 2008
    • Clive, the search method we have used is actually much more efficient than that. All you have to do is key in your main ingredient (or any other ingredient/s) and all the recipes which use it will be pulled up on screen. For e.g., just type 'pork' in the search-box.
